Complete Home Renovation in Mt. Pleasant

When I interviewed Jill and Peter nearly five years ago for their award-winning home renovation in Applecross, I met a couple who were super-happy with the finished product delivered by One Design and Construct. And Jill and Peter weren’t the only folks totally impressed by their addition of a new master bedroom and ensuite, and extension of the kitchen, living and dining areas. It was Jill and Peter’s truly marvellous renovation that resulted in One Design and Construct winning the Master Builders Housing Excellence Award 2016 in the Alternation and Additions $150,000 to $200,000 category.

But life moves on. Changes in zoning laws in Applecross meant higher density living for Jill and Peter, so when an opportunity came to move into quieter Mt Pleasant, they took it.

Originally, the 2-storey 1991 Mt Pleasant house was all dark wood trimmings, with a dusty pink bathroom and an age-defining beige laminate kitchen. When it first came on the market, Jill and Peter visited the residence twice, but they weren’t really convinced to buy it. They deliberated. It had good bones, a ton of potential, and a view of the river. Were they up for another major renovation? They were. And who else would they choose to do the work other than One Design and Construct? Of course!

Initially, they thought they would move in, get settled, then think about the reno a little while down the track. But they didn’t figure the effect of having lived in an award-winning home for the past three years. The comparison was quite stark. They were only in the new house for two months, with a bunch of boxes still unpacked, when they both decided they couldn’t spend any more time with the dark wood trimmings, the dusty pink bathroom or the beige laminate kitchen! It was time to call John Bodin at One Design and Construct.

And the rest is, as we say, history. While Jill and Peter moved into a small bedroom, they let John’s team take over the entire house for a complete renovation (top to bottom, the entire interior as well as the exterior). Several internal wall modifications were made to accommodate a more open flow living space, kitchen, and ensuite bathroom. They even created a brand new balcony off the master bedroom looking out to the river, which includes an electric awning.

So now here we are in October 2021, and this week I was out to see Jill and Peter’s brand new high-quality reno in Mt. Pleasant. Wow!

Jill and Peter are so proud of their new renovation and they are quite confident that it could be yet another award-winning renovation project for 1DC. It really is that good!

Quite a number of people from the neighbourhood have stopped by to ask who the builder was and the neighbours across the street even commented how pleasant it is to look out and see J&P’s house from their window each morning.

And it seems that Ash, 1DC’s expert carpenter and all-around super-guy has left a lasting impression. As with so many of One Design and Construct’s projects, it’s the high-quality details that make all the difference. And this was certainly true for Jill and Peter’s new renovation. They are particularly proud of the fine detail and unique finish that Ash achieved for their stair railing. It’s these excellent finishing touches that everyone is always so happy to share with me whenever I interview clients for 1DC.

So to wrap up, are Jill and Peter absolutely chuffed with their new home? You bet!
