Atwell Renovation Progress Report

After the successful extension & renovation work at Applecross, the boys are now out in Atwell for a big renovation project.

The project is all underway and will be finished in a couple of weeks after the house has been fully gutted and the surface work completed. I would have liked to see the place before the cleaning out began, but these boys move fast. A lot faster than me! At least I got to see the ‘screeding’ – a new word I learned from John.

Next up is tiling. In fact, it was quite peculiar to see irregular chips in the wall all over the place where the  tiles are going to go. It turns out they help provide a better bond between the wall and the tiles. This is done as an additional precaution to ensure that the tiles stick well to the walls, they prime the walls and also waterproof the entire floors area, which is over and above the Australian standard. Another tip for you – take some ‘chips’ out of the wall before laying tiles.

After that will come the carpentry work and painting. Then the renovation will be all done.

I wondered, once again, how the owners of the place found One Design & Construct in order to commission the renovation work. Apparently, they watched John on Real Estate TV. How about that!

The boys are going to be out Coolbellup near Bibra Lake next, so I’ll really look forward to seeing the completed Atwell renovation in a few weeks time as well as catching the ‘gutting out’ of the new project so that I can give you some really useful before & after photos.

Until then, keep warm and stay safe!
